A national conference of Australian Sailing’s scientific and medical brains trust is expected to lead to improved communications between programs and a better understanding of overarching priorities.
The Sailing Sports Science and Medicine Conference, next Monday and Tuesday at Royal Brighton Yacht Club in Victoria, will be the first of its kind in sailing and will include various themes around athlete performance and well-being.
All state providers - medical, physio, strength and conditioning, psychology, personal excellence and nutrition - have been invited, as have state and national coaches. Also attending will be most of Australian Sailing’s high-performance administrative staff and the national SSSM team, who will deliver the conference content.
Among the topics to be discussed is Australian Sailing’s completed review to determine the curriculum across all sailing classes and SSSM disciplines
The main goal of the conference is to streamline the way national and state programs communicate and interact, and provide a clear message about national goals and processes that Australian Sailing asks the states to assist in delivering.
The nation’s top sailors arrive in Melbourne this week for team camp before most compete at Sail Melbourne.
