David Gilmour and Joel Turner have been working overtime at the Medemblik Regatta in The Netherlands - and their efforts are being rewarded at the right time, with the Australian Sailing Team pair moving up to fourth place overnight.
Gilmour and Turner scored their first bullet of the series in Race 7 and are nine points behind third-placed Jonas Warrer and Jakob Precht of Denmark after nine races.
“It’s been a very tricky regatta for us so far. We’ve had to work very hard in some key areas to keep us on the pace to stay in the game,” Turner said.
“Unfortunately, we spent some time in the jury room but nothing that will stop us from sailing at the front of the fleet.
“It’s been super light and tricky conditions here and we are enjoying the fact that we have some weaknesses that we are attacking.
“We had a better day today results-wise and hope to keep that momentum tomorrow, which is the last day of gold fleet racing.”
Australian Sailing Squad crew Lachy Gilmour and Ryan Donaldson scored 16, (21) and 14 and are 12th overall.
